Good family movie.

un film correct surtout si vous aimez les animaux. Beaux paysages s'inspirant en partie du Devon & Dartmoor mais je m'attendais davantage de Spielberg. En fait une belle histoire mais pas plus

War Horse has everything in it. The story has elements from Yellow Rolls-Royce, Doctor Zhivago, Seabiscuit and many other stories related horses, dogs and WWI shown on TV and movies. The most striking element is from a play called Caucasian Chalk Circle by the German modernist playwright Bertolt Brecht. The movie has a changing point of view. I would rather follow the story from one point of view for surprising result. The dynamic point of view during the movie made me lost interest in the story and made the story very predictable. One more prediction I was expecting was the love story between the grand-daughter of a jam maker and our soldier if the girl was older than she was in the movie; perhaps they did not want this since it would turn War Horse into Yellow Rolls-Royce movie.

Spielberg always tells a good straight ahead story. Now he takes on a book by Michael Murpurgo, an excellent British children's author.

There's a need for more films like this one. Although it was a somewhat predictable, semi-anticlimactic, series of vignettes, it was genuinely decent uplifting cinema. Hollywood has become saturated with a deluge of amorality and gratuitous crap. War Horse wasn't his best, but you can always count on the integrity of Spielberg's films. He's a class act. He did put some effort into it (production value, John Williams' score, etc.). The gorgeous final shot, with the silhouette of the young man on his horse, against a fireburst sunset backdrop, definitely felt like an homage to the incomparable director John Ford. Bravo Mr. Spielberg. Bravo.

(Joey has just been freed from being ensnared in barbed wire in No-Man's Land, by both a British and a German soldier, during a mini-truce) British soldier: "Look at that horse! Look at the muscles he's got! Them long legs! They're made for runnin', horses. Runnin' away from danger." German soldier: "Running away's all they have." British soldier: "And yet, we taught them opposite... Runnin' into the frey..." German soldier: "War horse." British soldier: "...War horse..."

"We'll be alright Joey. We're the lucky ones, you and me. Lucky since the day I met you" -Albert Narracott
