Add a CommentThis one was not for me. If I had a mathematical mind maybe I could have become involved, but I found it wordy and incomprehensible. I thought Anna Massey was a caricature not a believable person. I stayed with it until she was murdered and then when I realized I'd no idea what John hurt was talking about, I decided to go onto other things.
Just had to see this one once again. It was just before Dad's passing last year that I saw this one. Lenor Waitling is her name. And what a her ...And then some ! Good movie too. Now that's a Rack ! !
The Oxford Murders is a complex murder mystery with logic and mathematics playing a pivotal role in the storyline. An American student arrives at Oxford hoping to study and be mentored by a legendary professor of logic. The student's host is murdered in what appears to be the first in a pattern of serial killings. The student and professor decide to work together to determine who may be murdered next. There are plenty of suspects as well as a surprise ending.
A pretty good murder mystry film. It starts out a bit slowly and could have done without the sex sceens with Wood and his lover; however, as the film progresses and really gets into the mystery it becomes better and better. The twists and truns, especially towards the end of the film are good ones. Also, the evolution of Wood's character as he discovers more and more about his idol, the professor, is well done.
Paralyzingly boring. Elijah Wood lives up to his name. He's a block of wood in this movie. I agree that it was pretentious and silly. I only watched the first half then stopped the DVD. Waste of time.
A stunningly intellectual thriller where the plot twists & turns. A mystery I thought was well-written and put together. Great movie that keeps you guessing.
I found this silly and pretensious. The plot doesn't hold together that well and it is terribly melodrdamatic in places. It is, however, the only movie I've ever seen where there is a dramatic staging of a mathematical proof. (I'm not sure why it was there, but nevermind.) And why did they change Fermat's Last theorem to Bermat's (or Bormat's?) last theorem? All in all, not really worth the time it takes to watch it.
this is really good how it goes back and forth unsure as to who while everyone is suspect. good job.
Hurt is alright, but the rest of them are blocks of Wood. The harder the screenwriters worked to maket this thing intelligent, the worse off the viewer is. I turned it off about half-way through in disgust. I do that very Seldom. As dumb as a movie can get.
Entertaining enough, but surprisingly awkward, even with decent acting by Elijah Wood (maybe miscast though) and John Hurt. Made by a Spanish director, and may have been better/more mysterious as a Spanish movie. The ending seemed to fall flat and did not make sense...it probably made sense in the book.
