This was an exceptional book. A challenging & rewarding reading experience, and also a lot of fun. It works on many levels: satire of capitalist culture, commentary on the relationship between commerce and art--and, most importantly, as a moving, believable story of individual lives. It might be 98% dialogue, but the dialogue is completely believable and true. A wonderful book.

You may not notice it at first but this book is almost ALL dialogue! Nobody, but nobody, can write real dialogue like Gaddis! An astounding tour de force!
